Finding Strength and Support: How The Pillar Foundation Helped Amy Navigate Life After Military Transition

Amy talking to Teresa Schick

Amy, a 20+ year Navy SOF spouse and mom of five found herself in uncharted territory after her husband’s separation from the military. For years, she had been the backbone of their family, holding everything together while her husband served in the Special Operations Forces. But now, with the transition to civilian life, everything had changed.

Trying to balance the road to transition and getting set up for a separation of military to civilian life, plus everything life has thrown at them - the emotional toll that has been placed on the family seems overwhelming at times. Amy found herself grappling with her own mental and physical health struggles. It was a heavy weight, made even more challenging as she guided their five teenagers through this turbulent time.

In the midst of this storm, The Pillar Foundation became a lifeline for Amy. Through one-on-one calls with Teresa and access to retreats and resources, Amy discovered she wasn’t alone in her journey. The Pillar Foundation provided the understanding and support she needed, not just as a SOF spouse but as a woman who was also trying to rediscover herself. With Teresa’s guidance, Amy began to unpack the complex layers of her new personal and professional identities, learning how to care for herself while still being there for her family.

The retreats offered by The Pillar Foundation gave Amy a space to breathe, reflect, and connect with other SOF spouses who truly understood the unique challenges she was facing. It was during these moments of connection that she realized she didn’t have to navigate this journey alone. She wasn’t just a support system for her husband—The Pillar Foundation reminded her that she deserved support, too. Slowly but surely, Amy started to rediscover her true self, regaining confidence in her ability to handle the tough times while also embracing her own passions and dreams.

Through the ups and downs, The Pillar Foundation has been there, offering real-world understanding and practical resources that have helped Amy support her husband during this transition time, even when it wasn’t easy. She learned how to set healthy boundaries and find a balance between being there for him and taking care of her own needs. The foundation helped Amy realize that she is more than just a SOF spouse—she’s a strong, capable woman with her own dreams and desires.

Today, as Amy continues to navigate this new chapter of life, she’s doing so with the tools and confidence that The Pillar Foundation helped her discover. She knows the road ahead won’t always be easy, but with The Pillar Foundation by her side, she feels more prepared than ever to handle the challenges that come her way. Most importantly, she knows she’s not alone—and that makes all the difference.
